Addiction is often approached through the lens of pathology, diagnosis, and symptom reduction. Yet beneath every addiction—whether involving alcohol, drugs, food, work, pornography, gambling, compulsive spending, social media, or even perfectionism—lies a profoundly human question: “How do we cope with pressure?”

This webinar offers an integrative framework for understanding addiction that is at once clinically grounded, psychologically informed, and immediately applicable in everyday practice. Rather than focusing primarily on addictive behaviors themselves, participants will explore the deeper physiological and psychological conditions that allow addiction to emerge, persist, and, ultimately, lose its grip.

Using an accessible “seesaw” model of stress and reward, Dr. Bob Weathers demonstrates how chronic activation of the body’s stress response—particularly elevated cortisol and adrenaline—naturally increases our search for quick, powerful sources of relief. From this perspective, addiction becomes understandable not simply as a failure of willpower or character, but as an increasingly costly attempt to regulate an overwhelmed nervous system.

This webinar proposes a hopeful reorientation of addiction treatment itself. Recovery is not merely about eliminating unhealthy behaviors. It is about helping individuals build lives that are increasingly calm, connected, creative, and deeply nourishing—lives in which the need to seek refuge through addiction gradually gives way to the possibility of becoming more fully alive.
