After the midterm elections, the end of the current Congress and the beginning of the next one will take place in a highly charged political environment, to say the least. Many challenges lie in wait, and behavioral health policy will certainly be impacted.
The most pressing business is the federal budget, which is responsible for funding federal agencies such as SAMHSA, the CDC, and the National Institutes of Health. Congress has until December 11 to find a solution, or at least a way to extend the deadline in order to avoid a government shutdown, which would almost certainly impact grants that go to states and communities.
The other issue looming large on the horizon is Medicaid, and a change in congressional party control will almost certainly lead to clashes over policies that have been put in place over the course of the last two years. These include Medicaid work requirements, State Directed Payments, and other issues that could have an extreme impact on SUD services around the country.
This webinar, only two weeks after the midterm elections, will examine the current policy challenges facing the behavioral health community, and how the results will have an impact – for better or for worse (or both…).
