Advocacy Alert: Support AB 2030 to Protect California Youth

August 17, 2026

via NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association)

Take action to protect California youth from dangerous diet pills and muscle-building supplements by urging California senators to vote YES on AB 2030 in the upcoming full Senate vote.

Unfortunately, today’s toxic diet culture and relentless pressure around body image continue to drive many teens toward harmful and poorly regulated products marketed as quick fixes for weight loss or muscle gain. Research has shown that young people who use over-the-counter diet pills are significantly more likely to be diagnosed with an eating disorder and other serious health complications. These products are frequently sold with misleading claims and too often contain ingredients linked to serious health risks, including stroke, heart attack, liver and kidney injury, and even death.

If signed into law, AB 2030 would prohibit the sale of these products to California children under 18 years of age, both in retail stores and online. The bill establishes commonsense safeguards to help keep these potentially dangerous products out of the hands of children.
