Legislative Alert: Florida’s Don Hahnfeldt Veteran and Military Family Opportunity Act

May 31, 2018

On March 13, 2018, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed HB 29, better known as the Don Hahnfeldt Veteran and Military Family Opportunity Act.

This legislation creates a number of benefits for veterans, current members of the United States Armed Forces, and their spouses. One such benefit is the expansion of fee waivers for commercial telephone sellers and entities providing substance abuse marketing services.

Now, an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces, the spouse or surviving spouse of such a veteran, a current member of the United States Armed Forces who has served on active duty, the spouse of such a member, the surviving spouse of a member of the United States Armed Forces if such member died while serving on active duty, or a business entity that has a majority ownership held by such a veteran or spouse or surviving spouse may obtain a waiver of the $1,500 fee for licensure upon submission of appropriate proof to the Department of Children and Families - Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program Office.

The bill will go into effect on July 1, 2018.
