This training will define what supervision is and the competencies of supervision and the role of the supervisor in cultivating the role of peer support in clinical practice. It will also address Role Bleed and Role Strain in the delivery of peer Support services and how the supervisor can monitor and mitigate these factors. We will also discuss boundaries within the supervisory relationship as well as developing the peer’s boundaries with clients.
This discussion will address the challenges encountered by supervisors, including situations such as supervising a peer who was previously a client. Additionally, it will examine how the responsibilities of professionals differ when providing services via telehealth. Discussion will include the many ways peer support can enhance a person’s clinical experience by sharing lived experience including successes and failures when navigating the challenges of early recovery and offer support in accessing community resources which may be useful to that person in developing stability in their own recovery journey.
This training will also discuss the unique nature of the role of peer Support and the value of dedicated supervision, and the role of the supervisor in developing a unique niche for peer support within the clinical practice. We will also discuss the types of supervision most effective with peer support and review the competencies of peer support supervision as well as goals and strategies a supervisor can use when providing peer support supervision. Finally, this training will address some of the common dilemmas experienced by supervisors with some suggested strategies for addressing them.
