Advocacy Alert: Support Treatment Court Bill

February 10, 2022

via NADCP (National Association of Drug Court Professionals)

Tell your U.S. House Representative to support the Treatment Court, Rehabilitation, and Recovery Act (Treatment Court Act) to modernize and meet the needs of treatment courts.

The Treatment Court Act will replace the current drug court grant program at the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). It incorporates decades of your best practices, authorizes $100 million in funding, and mandates an equitable distribution of grant awards.

In 1994, the Drug Court Discretionary Grant program was signed into law. Since that time, the grant program received only minor updates, but treatment courts across the country have expanded and evolved. It is time the federal program meets the current needs of treatment courts. Your U.S. House Representative needs to hear from YOU to know the importance of treatment courts in your community and the need to update the grant program.

Note: Veterans treatment courts have separate authorized grant program. The Treatment Court Act includes all adult drug courts, juvenile drug treatment courts, family treatment courts, tribal healing to wellness courts, and impaired driving courts at the BJA, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice.
