Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a dynamic, client-centered approach that helps substance use disorder (SUD) counselors guide individuals toward meaningful change. Rather than using confrontation, persuasion, or advice-giving, MI empowers clients by strengthening their own motivation and commitment to change. This evidence-based method has been widely adopted in addiction treatment, healthcare, and mental health fields, proving to be an effective tool for addressing ambivalence and fostering long-term recovery.
Why Motivational Interviewing?
Many individuals struggling with substance use experience ambivalence—they may recognize the need for change but feel uncertain, resistant, or stuck. Traditional counseling approaches that focus on telling clients what to do can lead to defensiveness or disengagement. MI offers a different path, one rooted in collaboration and empowerment. By using specific communication techniques, MI helps clients explore their own reasons for change, making the process more personal and effective.
This engaging webinar will introduce you to the key principles, techniques, and real-world applications of MI. Whether you're new to MI or looking to refine your skills, this session will provide valuable insights and hands-on strategies that you can immediately implement in your practice.
