Psychological research has consistently maintained a direct correlation between increased substance use -- even after inpatient treatment or rehabilitation -- and continuing, post-discharge deficits in important, daily coping skills. Therefore, the key to not only initiating but, more importantly, sustaining abstinence and preventing relapse is for the client to first build, then regularly practice a range of proven skills for coping with both anticipated and potentially unforeseen challenges and stressors.

Such cognitive-behavioral skills draw on the best of empirically validated approaches, both from clinical psychology as well as wisdom traditions employing various mindfulness practices. Both of our presenter's recent books -- for behavioral healthcare professionals and lay audiences in recovery, along with their loved ones –- employ a whole host of practical exercises to aid in building these concrete skills in vivo. Theory, while useful, is clearly insufficient "where the rubber meets the road" in sustaining successful addiction recovery.

This webinar will itself model that same commitment to real-life application. Webinar participants will learn, then demonstrate, their own, beginning foundations of the very skills they will then bring to their clinical work.

In summary, the Recovery Resilience Program offers specific skills for:

  • Coping with High-Risk Situations, Triggers, and Cravings
  • Managing Problematic Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors
  • Promoting Flourishing, Genuine Connection, and Life Satisfaction
  • Creating a Sustained and Successful Recovery-Oriented Lifestyle

All these skills will be both discussed and modeled throughout this webinar for behavioral health professionals with the goal that they might be immediately applied in their clinical work.
